Jacob Rees-Mogg: The Right Tests For Northern Ireland Protocol

The Northern Ireland Protocol, a part of the Brexit trade deal between the UK and the EU, has been the subject of scrutiny since it was signed in December 2020. This article looks at the views of Jacob Rees-Mogg, the leader of the House of Commons, on the protocol and the seven tests he has set out to assess its validity. We'll look at what the tests are, how they were formed, and how they could shape the future of the protocol. We'll also consider the implications for the Union and the UK's relations with the EU.

The TCA is like a giant bungee cord — if or when the Brits diverge they will feel the elastic tighten in the crotch.

Jonathan “No change to what we think the net cost will be”
Well yes. If you don’t update your models for actual experience to date.

2017 recession, 500k job losses, 8% slower house price increases. All within 2 years of a vote to leave. Reviewed why the models wrongly predicted these? Why only got the fall in Sterling right.

100k+ job losses in the city. Reviewed why beeb only 8k? Updated your models for actual very basic behavioural economics? Sarah mentioned clearing with the fact the EU have had to delay again their changes. Because they don’t have the competencies. Have we updated our economic models for why? Or the models still assume 0.23% cheaper cost abroad = job moves vs actual experience to date of human doesn’t want to live in Frankfurt, accepts 0.23% lower pay rise as a one off.

The feedback cycle has not been actioned. Either through professional incompetence. Or political bias. Not sure which is worse.

The UK will not diverge because it needs the EU more then the EU needs it. The simple fact you lot seem to think it can do otherwise just is another proof of how diluted and ignorant you lot are. The real truth is you’re a laughing stock. The lot of you.
